Peace in Bloom Mural
Melbourne Design Week 2025

View website here >

Peace in Bloom is a mural that was been created by the Master of Design students at Swinburne University of Technology's School of Design and Architecture in collaboration with Melbourne street artist Ghostpatrol a.k.a. David Booth. It was launched at an official Melbourne Design Week Event in May 2025.

Melbourne is the unofficial Australian city of international students — a place where people from all corners of the globe live, learn, work and vibe together. It’s a vibrant mix of cultures, ideas, and late-night study sessions fuelled by great coffee and even better conversations. This everyday harmony is proof that inclusivity is already thriving in our design community.

That’s why this mural, Peace in Bloom, made by our Master of Design students (below), is blooming with meaning. The students picked the national flowers of the top ten countries with the most international students in Victoria. Why flowers? They’re nature’s ambassadors of goodwill, quietly powerful and beautifully unifying. This mural is designed to bring nature inside and turn a plain wall into a blooming statement of unity.

Student team includes: Yashika Bajaj. Chamroeun (David) Chea, Deanne Dsouza, Mingyang (Min) Huang, Wan Lun, (Sophia) Huang, Richa Gaurang Parmar, Peter Vongunster , Suwan Dharshana Wijesinghe, Panchanok (Mind) Juntanarach and Runyu Li.

Melbourne Design Week Panel Discussion Video >>

The discussion questions the value of legal and illegal murals and the power they have to reclaim space and spread messages publicly.

Artist David Booth is shown in conversation with Dr. Sabina Andron, a graffiti expert, and Swinburne lecturer Dr. Jane Connory, to discuss how our vibrant city still embraces public murals and the power they have to convey important societal messages.
